Bears For Cares
Bears for Cares is a new book series and campaign founded by 19-year-old author Lotus Kay and her sister, Jazmin, on #EndangeredSpeciesDay as a project of Jane Goodall Institute’s and Roots & Shoots youth service program. The campaign aims to educate children about the state of wildlife and our earth and what they can do to make a difference.
The Books: Lotus wrote More Beautiful Than Heaven when she was 16 to raise awareness about the beauty of nature and the Earth, the endangered state of wildlife and our environment, and ultimately inspire children to care for and protect the planet and our fellow inhabitants. She then wrote Billie the Octopus to educate kids about the beauty and importance of the ocean and protecting fish and marine life.
Her new books include Thanksgiving for the Turkeys What does a turkey think right before Thanksgiving? This book tells the story of Milo the turkey as he tries to navigate “Turkey Day.” Milo will make you want to stretch your heart out to animals this year. The book presents a new way of thinking about food choices and Thanksgiving through a turkey’s eyes.
Jenny the Chimpanzee Learn about the history and origins of humanity’s evolution, explained simply by a chimpanzee named Jenny. Be reminded of how interconnected humans are with all other wildlife on this planet.
The books are illustrated by artist Chey Diehl and are printed in the USA on recycled, acid-free paper.
The Toys: All the books have stuffed animals that are characters in the book that can be found at the Hugg-A-Planet website: “Beary” the polar bear in More Beautiful Than Heaven) and “Billie” the octopus, "Milo" the turkey, and "Jenny" the chimpanzee. which support the Roots & Shoots program.
A portion of the proceeds from all the books and toys will be donated to the Jane Goodall Institute and its Roots & Shoots program.
